International Day is an annual event at Mutiara International Grammar School to celebrate the diversity of our community.
Our students come from more than 30 nationalities and events such as International Day give us the opportunity to highlight the rich heritage, traits and values of the cultures represented at our School.
The event took on a new meaning this year when the spotlight was placed on Africa. Africa is a continent that is profoundly rich in culture and history. The School wanted it to be further explored and appreciated by all in the Mutiaran community, and provide the opportunity to learn more about Africa’s heritage and remarkable contributions to the world.
African music, dance and customs from the different African countries were introduced. There was a fashion show which showcased not only the beautiful costumes of Africa but also the origin and reason behind each garment.
Then there was a sensational African dance performance by professional dancers which had everyone cheering. Lots of traditional African music and African-themed music were played which had everyone on their feet dancing to the beat.
To add to the festivities, there was an African art and craft exhibition, hair-braiding and funky face painting. There was also a photo booth decorated à la Africa.
And the food was amazing. They were not as spicy as authentic African food but still tasted delicious.
The School had the best and most memorable International Day celebrations to date. Thank you, Africa!
