About a week ago on the 21st of June, MIGS held its annual ‘Market Day’, an event organised by the year 9s. Others might have seen it as a day where they could get D.I.Y goodies but the year 9s have a lot more to say about it. As a year 9, I’d like to write about what I experienced. We all officially started planning for market day at the beginning of term two. We all got into our own groups and made surveys to see what our consumers would want. After getting the results from the surveys we would go on to figure out what our products should be. After finalising our products, we went on to buying the materials for them as we filled in a booklet with the details of our costing and pricing.
When the day arrived, all of us were pacing all around the school and rushing to get things into place in the assembly hall. Then before we knew it, students started pouring into the hall just in time. If you took a look around the hall you would see a variety of activities and items including t-shirts, slimes, mugs, candles, video games and so on. Of course the most popular stall was the one based on the game ‘Fortnite’. Their stall included t-shirts and a chance to play ‘Fortnite’ at their stall. Another popular stall was one called ‘estetico’, where they sold slime and tie and dye T-shirts. At the very end of the day we had to count all the money we had gotten and donated a certain percentage to charity. We then went on to divide the money between ourselves equally by using the methods we learned in business studies.
Overall, ‘Market Day’ was a rollercoaster of emotions for all of us. We all worked our hardest to make the best products for the students of MIGS and would like to thank everyone who contributed by buying a product from one of our stalls. – By Sharifah, Year 9E
