Year 12 (ages 16-17) and Year 13 (ages 17-18)

Key stage 5 covers Years 12 and 13. This stage offers a two-year Advanced Level (A-Level) course that culminates in examinations administered by the University of Cambridge Assessment International Examinations (CAIE).

The Cambridge A-Levels offer at Mutiara offers a range of subjects that are designed to maximize the eligbility of students to as many institutions of higher education as possible, in turn maximizing the number of potential future career paths.

It is our recommendation that all students enrolling in the A-Levels programme begin by taking three A-Level subjects and the AS English General Paper to study in Year 12. A brief overview of the A-Level subjects offered a can be downloaded below.

Cambridge International AS & A Level Biology develops a set of transferable skills including handling data, practical problem-solving, and applying the scientific method. Learners develop relevant attitudes, such as concern for accuracy and precision, objectivity, integrity, enquiry, initiative and inventiveness. They acquire the essential scientific skills required for progression to further studies or employment.

Cambridge International A Level Business provides a suitable foundation for the study of Business or related courses in higher education. Equally it is suitable for candidates intending to pursue careers or further study in business or management, or as part of a course of general education.

Cambridge International AS Level Chemistry makes up the first half of the Cambridge International A Level course in Chemistry and provides a foundation for the study of Chemistry at Cambridge International A Level. Depending on local university entrance requirements, students may be able to use it to progress directly to university courses in Chemistry or some other subjects. It is also suitable as part of a course of general education.

Cambridge International AS & A Level English Language develops a set of transferable skills. These include critical analysis; constructing arguments; presenting knowledge and understanding; and writing English in a balanced, articulate and fluent manner. Learners can apply these skills across a wide range of subjects and real-world situations. These skills will also equip them well for progression to higher education or directly into employment.

Cambridge International AS Level English General Paper develops a set of transferable skills. These include comprehension, constructing an argument, presenting views, and writing English coherently and persuasively. Learners can apply these skills across a wide range of subjects and these skills equip them well for progression to higher education or directly into employment.

Geography occupies a central position in understanding and interpreting issues affecting people, places and environments, and change in space and time. This syllabus encourages learners to understand contemporary issues and the complexity of environmental systems. Learners gain an understanding of the impacts of human activity on environments and how these impacts can be managed sustainably. This syllabus emphasizes studying real examples and case studies to show the diversity and interdependence of physical and human environments.

Cambridge International AS and A Level History is one of the most recognized qualifications around the world. It is accepted as proof of academic ability and of historical knowledge for entry to universities.
