Mutiara International Grammar School (MIGS) hosted its much-anticipated International Day on Thursday, 4th September, bringing together more than 450 students, parents, educators, and distinguished guests in a joyous celebration of culture, unity, and learning.
This year’s International Day highlighted 11 countries, each brought to life through student performances, storytelling, dance, music and creative showcases. Highlights included a spirited Dikir Barat and Saya Anak Malaysia performance by Years 1 and 2; Korean cultural song and dance from Year 5; storytelling of the Maldivian legend ‘Koimala Kalo’ by Year 10; and the powerful Shekini dance by Year 11 students as part of the African showcase. Parents actively contributed to country booths, presenting food, crafts and cultural artefacts from Indonesia, Pakistan, Bangladesh and beyond, turning The Campus, Ampang grounds into a vibrant marketplace of global discovery.

The event was officiated by YBhg. Datin Rosliza Binti Rosli, Director of the Private Education Division, Ministry of Education, who toured the campus before launching the celebration, and remarked the strong community spirit:-
“What I find especially inspiring is the way MIGS connects with the wider community. This is not just a school; with its extended facilities, it has become a hub where people come together. Events like today remind us how meaningful it is when students, families, and educators unite to celebrate milestones.”
The event was also graced by Her Excellency Yadira Ledesma Hernández, Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to Malaysia, representatives from the Embassy of the Philippines and the Embassy of Ukraine, as well as YBhg. Tan Sri Liow Tiong Lai, Chairman of MIGS’ Board of Governors, YBhg. Datuk Yee Kong Fatt, Chairman of MIGS’ Board of Directors, and many others.
A unique feature of MIGS’ International Day is the strong parental involvement, which underscores the collaborative spirit of the MIGS community. Parents not only supported the cultural booths with authentic food and artefacts, but also joined their children on stage in a lively international fashion runway, proudly displaying traditional attire alongside students. This intergenerational participation highlighted MIGS’ commitment to building a close-knit school community that celebrates diversity together.
Welcoming everyone at the event, Mr. John Birch, Principal of MIGS, expressed his pride:-
“International Day is more than a celebration of cultures—it is a testament to the community we have built at MIGS, where students, parents, and educators come together to learn from one another, respect differences, and celebrate what makes each of us unique.”
With its blend of performances, cultural showcases, and warm community spirit, MIGS’ International Day once again affirmed the school’s role as not only a place of learning but also a hub for cultural exchange and shared growth.
